How to Make a Hide Out

Author: dohow 18-05-2011, 19:29 Hobbies & Science
A good hide out is relatively comfortable, big enough to hold some supplies and, most of all, very hard to find unless you know where you're going. Hide outs are popular with school-age children, secretive teenagers and adults who crave privacy. Whether you're looking for a permanent clubhouse or a temporary retreat, create your hide out with care to make it as secret as possible and add comfort features in case you have to use it for an extended period of time.

Instructions

  • Find a spot that doesn't look like it could hold anyone comfortably and expand on it. Use a small cabinet under the stairs, an old cabin in the woods or a neglected room in the basement.
  • Improve the interior of your hide out to make it more comfortable. Bring in cushions, a mattress, blankets and pillows and reading material. Add supplies like shelf-stable foods, snacks, flashlight and batteries, toilet paper, bottled water and a crank-operated camping radio. If you anticipate being in your hide out for more than one day, bring a supply of clean and comfortable clothing like sweats and yoga gear.
  • Work on the exterior of your hide out to make it more hidden. If your place is in the woods, find blown-over trees and lean them against walls or windows. Kick trash against entrances to your abandoned house. Wire or glue boxes against the outside of your hide out door so it looks like they're stacked against it when the door is closed.
  • Tips & Warnings

    • Look around before entering and exiting your hide out. Never move toward the entrance if someone else is outside.
