How to Paint Wooden Birds

Whether they're being used as toys for children or decoration, wooden birds can provide hours of enjoyment. Applying paint to your wooden birds adds a touch of personalization and creativity. By painting your wooden birds, you also lessen the risks of splinters by creating a smoother surface. You have the option of painting your wooden birds all one color or multiple colors depending on the design you choose.

Instructions

  • Smooth the surface of the wooden bird and round off sharp edges using the sandpaper.
  • Apply one coat of paint on the body of the bird using your medium-tipped paint brush. Take your time painting to ensure none of the paint bleeds unto the eyes, beak and feet. Allow to dry. Apply a second of coat of paint to the bird and allow to dry.
  • Paint the eyes, beak and feet of the bird using the fine-tipped brush, rinsing the brush as you alternate colors. Take your time painting to ensure none of the paint bleeds onto the body. Allow it to dry.
  • Apply the clear coat with your medium-tipped brush over the entire surface of the bird. Allow to dry.
